My Advocacy this Quarter

Hello. This is an update from my blog regarding my campaigning. I advocate for improving children's reading and comprehension skills since, due to low understanding, many children nowadays are unable to comprehend even simple sentences or texts. Additionally, my advocacy runs a weekly session to maintain the kids' reading comprehension.

This is the poster of my advocacy. I created this for my week 2 activity in my ET subject.

A concept paper is another assignment that we must complete for our advocacy. In addition, our teacher said that there's a potential they may use my advocacy to run this kind of program if our advocacy is realistic. Here is the example below.

Reacquainting Children with Reading

2. Introduction

Our short program is to teach grade one students how to read again and there will be a reward system for those students who will excel in this program.

3. Purpose

The children of today are not reading. Their primary attention is on entertainment rather than reading comprehension, even when they watch educational programs. Their future will suffer as a result of their low reading comprehension since they will struggle to understand books or documents in college or to finish a postgraduate study like a master' s or doctorate.

4. Description

There will be a brief (15 minutes) mini-class wherein reading comprehension tips and techniques will be discussed. The curriculum will run for the full academic year's two quarters. For participants in the reading program who perform really well, there will be a reward system to encourage the students to read more. Every week, there will be a brief test to assess the students' knowledge. The awards will be given out for the best readers in the program at its conclusion.

5. Support

Funding - there will be a fund raising campaign for the program. We will also accept donations from sponsors who would like to be involved in this program. The budget would be Php20,000 and we will try to raise additional funds through sponsorship to cover the expenses for the duration of the program. There will be an honorarium for the teachers of the mini classes. 

Collaboration - bookstores and school teachers.

Volunteers - teachers or students from upper levels who want to stand as reading mentors.

These are just a few of the lessons taught in our ET class this quarter. This quarter teaches us how to use social media to communicate with others. We are also taught here about the positive and negative repercussions of social media use. This lecture has had a significant impact on me since I now understand how social media works.
